about
The lyrics for “Corrupted Text” were partly inspired by Hume’s “Of Miracles” and Parts 3 and 4 of Hobbes’ Leviathan.
lyrics
Telling lies to cause wonder:
One of the oldest pastimes of mankind.
Try to distract the mind from thinking
Too deeply about the cares that weigh us down.
Recounting marvelous tales and strange delusions-
Unlimited thirst for fantasy-
Disbelieving the facts they see
In exchange for an exhausted false reality.
Impelled on by groundless hope
Naively expressed as evidence;
Astonished listeners re-tell fanciful legends-
Might as well be fairy tales of little girls
Staring out to Neverland-
Textual distortion in their hands.
A false translation misunderstood:
Echoes of corrupted text.
Staring into the sun,
Focused on the need for meaning.
Dreaming yet not asleep...
Mind seared by false teachings.
The wisps of dreams from another world.
Steeped in delusion,
Weighing their lives down.
What can’t be proven lacks claim to truth.
Steeped in delusion- entrancing sacred ruse!
Ignore their claims that contradict reason:
Guard and revere respect for truth.
Zealots emboldened to say
That by their faith alone
The words in doubt are proven true,
When they can't even understand the language
The ancient texts were written in.
Well-intentioned, and yet misled;
Platonic passed off as Christian.
What’s in a vision is not really true:
A figment of imaginings,
Symbolic but not real.
(Reciting vague words
As if they had deep meaning.)
Unknown: the text
Originally written by the men.
Foundational concepts redefined.
A clever ancient lie
Shrewdly misinterred:
Echoes of corrupted text.

This album being played over the PA system at the museum where Salvador Dali's "The Persistence of Memory" is housed is what caused the faces of the clocks in the painting to melt. meeko

never been a big death metal fan but this is actually super accessible for the genre, has fun concepts, and personally i'm always a fan of albums with short tracklists and huge runtimes (for individual songs) Great time, good jumping on point for newbies too. alienasu
